Michael Waterman

Michael
Waterman was born in Portland Maine in 1947. By the
age of four, he was painting in the studio of his father,
Portland artist Alfred Waterman. Before finishing high
school, he had participated in numerous group and solo
exhibitions and also received a commission to produce a 75 foot
mural.
His talent brought him
several awards in school and a scholarships to the Pratt
Institute in Brooklyn and the Arts Student League in NYC.
By the age of 19 he had exhibited in a gallery on 57th street in
Manhattan. Michael returned to Portland in 1967 where he
has continued to exhibit and produce commissions for more than
30 years.
His work ranges from
lighthearted to inspirational. Through his work, Michael
conveys the the plight of the common man in relation to his
environment. Sometimes he ventures into the darker side of
life or off into the surreal. He documents everyday life in his
beloved Portland through a truly unique vision.
